A man kills two women in an Iowa church, in the second shooting of the day in the US

MADRID, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A man has killed two women and later committed suicide this Thursday night in the parking lot of the 'Cornerstone' church in the town of Ames, in the state of Iowa, in the second shooting of the day in the United States and following US President Joe Biden's request to Congress to ban assault weapons in the country.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. (local time) and when the agents arrived at the scene they found two women and a man dead, the city's police chief, Nicholas Lennie, confirmed. and as reported by the US network NBC News.

The man has been identified as the prime suspect and there is no threat to the community, Lennie added.

Thus, Lennie has said that the witnesses who have called the Police have assured that an armed man in the church parking lot had shot two people.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has appeared late this Thursday at the White House to ask Congress to ban assault weapons in the country and establish stricter laws to control them.

This event comes hours after a "multiple shot" shooting has left victims during a funeral at Graceland Cemetery in Racine, about 30 miles south of Milwaukee, the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, and a day after that a gunman killed his surgeon and three others at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

On May 24, another shooting left at least 21 people dead, 19 of them children and two adults, at the Robb Elementary School in the city of Uvalde, in the state of Texas, in the southern United States.
