KLM provides approximately 1500 compulsory redundancies on its 33 000 employees and is in addition to 2000 voluntary departures.

The Dutch airline KLM announced on Friday that it would cut up to 5,000 jobs by the end of 2021 because of the "crisis of unprecedented severity" caused by the pandemic of sars coronavirus.

"KLM is struggling with a crisis of an unprecedented scale, ( ... ) We expect that the road to recovery is long and full of uncertainties," said KLM in a statement.

"This means that the structure and the size of KLM have yet to be rigorously adjusted in the years to come. Therefore, a total of 4500 to 5000 posts in all of the group KLM will disappear", she warned.

The losses abyssal incurred by the company make it inevitable that these job cuts, in spite of the aid plan of 3.4 billion euros agreed by the government of the netherlands, explained the company, that is part of the alliance Air France-KLM.
