In retail, the total revenue in 2019 reached 144,6 billion euros, compared to 139 billion in the previous year. In the framework of this harvest, the payments on media of so-called "units of account" accounted for almost 40 billion euros, or 27% of contributions.

In a context of very low rates, or even negative, the insurance companies are struggling to use the return to customers with contracts to so-called "euro", which refers to investments whose pay is humble, but ensured regardless of the conditions.

outstanding life insurance contracts, up 6% year over year

This is why insurers have been trying for several months to encourage their customers to place more of their savings on media in "units of account", invested in securities that are riskier but also more lucrative.

The sums paid by the insurers to their clients they represented last year almost 119 billion euros, compared with a little over $ 118 billion in 2018. By doing this, the net collection, that is to say, the monies deposited by investors minus withdrawals, was $ 25.9 billion euros.

On the single month of December 2019, the net collection has represented 800 million euros, according to provisional figures of the federation. The stock of life insurance contracts accounted for at the end of December 1788 billion euros, up 6% year on year.
