Zelensky visits The Hague to meet with the heads of the ICC

MADRID, 4 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has arrived this Thursday in the Dutch city of The Hague to meet with those responsible for the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is investigating alleged war crimes committed by the Russian Army in Ukraine and issued in March an arrest warrant against the president, Vladimir Putin.

The spokesman for the Presidency, Serhii Nikiforov, has indicated that he is scheduled to meet with the president of the court, Piotr Hofmanski, and the secretary of the court Osvaldo Zavala Aguilar.

In addition, Zelensky will address Dutch society and representatives of legal institutions in The Hague during a speech scheduled for 12:00 (local time).

Nikiforov has also indicated that he will hold a meeting throughout the day with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, who will also be attended by the Belgian head of government, Alexander de Croo, according to a brief statement. Later, he will visit an Air Force base with the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander.

Previously, the Ukrainian president held a meeting in The Hague with the presidents of the House of Representatives and the Senate, Vera Bergkramp and Jan Braun, respectively.

Zelensky did not leave the country during the first ten months of the Russian invasion of Ukraine until, in December 2022, he moved to the United States. Since then, he has visited several European capitals to meet with senior officials.

On Wednesday, the president was in Helsinki, the Finnish capital, where he participated in a summit of leaders of the Nordic countries and met with the president, Sauli Niinisto. Zelensky is also scheduled to travel to Germany at the end of next week.
