Yolanda Díaz accuses the PP of "deepening the ecological crime" in Doñana and appeals for dialogue with affected sectors

ALMONTE (HUELVA), June 7 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Employment and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, this Wednesday accused the PP of "deepening the ecological crime" in Doñana and "violating the law", for which she has appealed for dialogue with the affected sectors, "environmental associations, science and farmers", to "find a solution to this serious problem".

This is how the vice president stated during a visit she made this Wednesday to Doñana together with Sumar's spokesperson for the 23J electoral campaign, Ernest Urtasun, where, in addition, she met with the environmental associations Ecologistas en acción, WWF and SEO/ Birdlife and also with farmers' associations, to discuss the Bill promoted by PP-A and Vox that regulates irrigated areas north of the Doñana Forest Crown.

In this sense, Díaz has criticized that the PP, "of Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Juanma Moreno", is "determined to violate the law" in Doñana, for which he has assured that the democrats have "a main mandate that is to respect the legality above all.

"Currently Feijóo is willing to abound in this ecological crime that we are experiencing. For this reason, we call on the PP to sit down and talk with the affected sectors, that is, the environmental associations, science and farmers," has asserted.

Thus, he has stressed that "only through dialogue can solutions be found to the serious problem we currently have", while rejecting "the position of a rebellious right in the face of the law", something that in his opinion "is not tolerable neither in our country nor in Europe", while stressing that Doñana is "right now a reference point for the environmental crisis and the climate crisis in Spain", a country that has "enormous climatic vulnerabilities".

"For too long I have been saying that there is no alternative, that we are living before an environmental and climate crisis, both, and, therefore, an unprecedented social crisis, and that, furthermore, they are the same face of three different aspects, but we are always talking about the same thing: there is an environmental crisis, there is a climate crisis and also a social one", he emphasized.

In this regard, the vice-president said that we must "also" talk about the agricultural sector in Andalusia and Spain because it is "a whole", since she has stated that all public policy "is already climate policy", so the debate in the country is "whether we want to be a renewable energy power in Europe or if, on the contrary, we want to become the desert of Europe".

"The alternative is to choose between two clear models: the one that we defend, that Spain is a power of clean and green energy in Europe and, therefore, a generator of quality jobs; or the desert model that devastates farmers and it causes job losses and, therefore, we are talking about dramas in the lives of the people who live in these spaces", he stated.

Likewise, the also Minister of Employment has indicated that "we must talk" about the agricultural sector, which in Andalusia "doubles its presence with respect to the whole of Spain", for which reason agriculture is "very important" for this reason "we must advocate for a sustainable productive model", but that "is conducive to training, innovation, added value and generator of quality jobs".

For his part, Sumar's spokesman for the 23J electoral campaign, Ernest Urtasun, has assured that the coalition wants to be "the standard-bearer in the fight against climate change", for this reason they will not tolerate "what is happening" and that he has lived in Brussels in recent months, which is "this desire of the right and the extreme right to reverse the policies of the European Green Pact."

"In recent weeks the European Commission has been pressured to withdraw the directive on the protection of nature and the directive on pesticides. There is a real political denialism that is currently operating in Brussels and that we are going to answer because that will of the Partido Popular to deny climate change policies cannot be sustained," he stated.

In this sense, he stressed that "Doñana, natural areas and biodiversity must be defended" because "we are in what some call the sixth extinction, that is, the massive loss of biodiversity in natural areas that especially affects Spain".

In addition, the MEP has assured that it is "a flagrant case of violation of European law" for which he has claimed "the application of Spanish and European law in the protection of Doñana", since the June 2021 sentence of the The Court of Justice of the European Union "demands that the illegal uses of water here in the park be stopped and that Doñana be protected."

On the other hand, he has indicated that it is "very dangerous" and rejects the formation "this dichotomy that the right wants to install in Europe of facing "the fight against climate change and agriculture", when, in his opinion, "they go hand in hand ", since "the best ally of farmers is the fight against climate change and the production of natural spaces so that they can do their job well".

"Sustainable agriculture is also the best way to defend our natural spaces. That irresponsibility that the Junta de Andalucía has generated in recent months of trying to confront these two things is deeply irresponsible. Yes, fighting against climate change and having an agriculture quality in Spain go hand in hand and that is deeply important to us and, for this reason, we are also here to defend Doñana, but also its farmers", he concluded.

For his part, the spokesman for Ecologistas en Acción, Juan Romero, assured that agriculture "has always coexisted in Doñana and in the El Condado region" and, therefore, "has to continue", for this reason, he has asked the PP to withdraw "immediately" the PDL and start the Strawberry Plan, which "has been approximately 5% executed, has not been fulfilled and has been in operation for seven years, does not have a technical office, does not have staff, does not The objectives are covered and now they want to break it because there is a part that does not have legal reserve".

"Of the more than 3,000 allegations, and many of them have reached the courts, none has been accepted. But that does not mean that farmers are left lying around, but that they must be addressed, but that does not imply that they have to modify the Strawberry Plan, first because of science, and second, because of the reality of Doñana", he explained.

In addition, he has stressed that the environmental associations and farmers "we are hand in hand", so they will continue "together to improve the situation", since he has stressed that the Doñana marsh is "dry", so commitment to "rescue damaged ecosystems, recovering surface waters".
