X-ray of Podemos: managers in several CCAA, resignations in its Executive and persistent clash with Sumar

A rearmament strategy has been established and is fighting to continue having a presence in the Government

MADRID, 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos is deploying a rearmament strategy after the electoral cycle due to the complex internal moment it is going through with the resignation of several regional leaderships (Balearic Islands, Aragon and the Valencian Community and Asturias) and two resignations in its state Executive.

Meanwhile, the clash with Sumar and his desire to mark strategic differences with Yolanda Díaz's project persists, as revealed by his demand for direct dialogue with the PSOE in view of the investiture.

And along these lines, he has repeatedly insisted on demanding his presence in the future coalition government with the continuity of Irene Montero at the head of the Ministry of Equality.

The purple formation is going through a difficult time after the poor result in the 28M elections and being displaced as a hegemonic force on the alternative left to the PSOE, after the deployment of the Sumar coalition led by Díaz, which has led it to undertake a plan to strengthen itself .

Furthermore, in recent weeks it has also suffered departures from its leadership, such as the departure of the party's head of housing, state co-spokesperson and former candidate in the Community of Madrid, Alejandra Jacinto, who announced that she was leaving her positions in Podemos and returning to exercise her activity as a lawyer in favor of the right to housing.

Jacinto, who was signed by the former Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias, for his candidacy in Madrid in the 2021 elections, also served as Sumar's housing spokesperson during the electoral campaign. She was in favor of building bridges with Díaz's new project, she made it clear that despite the discrepancies she is clear that the purple party was essential.

On the other hand, on September 25, the regional coordinator of Podemos Asturias, Sofía Castañón, also resigned, and she also left her positions in the executive (she was responsible for the culture area) and the state Citizen Council. And she did so by regretting the insidious noise "that surrounded her stage, in reference to the turbulent situation with the critical sector of the party at the regional level.

Also last month, another of its iconic figures, the co-founder of Podemos Juan Carlos Monedero, stopped presiding over the Fundación República.

In turn, the effects of the 28M elections, which were a setback for the party, led to the resignations of the regional leaderships in Aragon, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. In this way, the former coordinators Maru Díaz, Antonia Jover and Pilar Lima left their positions.

To address these situations at the regional level, the party has chosen to form managers in these territories until new regional assemblies are held. And given the losses in its leadership, party sources have indicated that Podemos is now prioritizing its rearmament strategy and will later address the reconfiguration of those vacancies in its executive.

For this process that seeks to redefine its roadmap, Podemos launched a new political document that submits to the contributions of its militancy, focused on a route of meetings with its militancy with special involvement of its state officials.

On this tour, meetings have already been held in Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia, Cantabria, the Canary Islands, Galicia and Cantabria, Aragón, Málaga, Extremadura, Navarra, Madrid, the Basque Country, among other territories.

This process will culminate in a political conference on November 4, which will foreseeably delve into the defense of its political autonomy as an essential condition for future electoral alliances, as well as the holding of primaries. Furthermore, and given the emergence of Sumar, which has to undertake its organic construction, the formation makes it clear in that text that there is no place for double militancy.

The tension with Sumar has been evident for months after, despite the agreement to go together to the 23J elections, the purple formation criticized the exclusion from the electoral lists of the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero.

Since then, Podemos has criticized attempts to make them invisible, with clashes after being left out of the deputy spokespersons of Congress and the recent complaint that Sumar vetoed his proposal for a non-law proposal in Congress in support of Palestine, to which the formation of Díaz replied that an initiative was going to be registered by consensus between the different parties within the parliamentary group.

Podemos also distanced itself from the opinion of jurists on the amnesty commissioned by Sumar, has questioned Díaz's negotiating strength with the PSOE and wants direct dialogue with the PSOE regarding the five proposals

In any case, the party has made it clear that its five deputies will act responsibly in the face of the investiture, although they have insistently demanded to be present in the future coalition government, considering it essential that the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, repeats in the position for the next term.

This week the leader of the formation, Ione Belarra, has warned that Sumar that the construction of the new alternative space to the PSOE must look clearly to the left, as it is a guarantee of "ideological clarity" in the face of the reactionary wave in Europe.

In this way, she has been wary of the upcoming European elections of rapprochement with the European Greens, days after the leader of Sumar will participate in her summit organized in Madrid, although she also participated in the conferences that she also organized in the capital 'The Left' (The Left) in the European Parliament.
