Ukraine declares air alert throughout the territory: "We don't have enough Patriot systems"

MADRID, 8 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukraine has declared an air alert throughout the territory on Monday, after Russia has deployed Mig-31K combat aircraft --armed with Kinzhal missiles, with nuclear capacity--, and has warned that they do not have enough Patriot systems to repel these types of projectiles.

"There is an air alert throughout Ukraine due to the departure of the MiG-31K, which are the ones that carry the Kinzhal. It should be remembered that we do not have enough Patriot systems that can protect the Ukrainian sky from this type of weapon," warned the spokesman for the Air Force Command, Yuri Ignat.

The Kinzhal "is an aeroballistic missile that can fly very fast and with great precision", so "there is a threat to the entire State. That is why the alarm has been declared," Ignat explained, the Ukrinform agency reports.

For this reason, Ignat has asked the public not to ignore this type of alarm, "even when there is confidence in the work of the air defense systems."

In recent days, it has been known that the Ukrainian forces, for the first time since the outbreak of the invasion, have been able to shoot down one of these missiles thanks to the Patriot system.

Specifically, it happened on the night of May 4 in the kyiv region. In addition to the Kinzhal, several drones were also shot down, as confirmed by the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk.
