UK confirms "serious damage" to Russian assault ship 'Olenegorski Gorniak', attacked in Black Sea

MADRID, 5 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom has confirmed this Saturday that the amphibious assault ship 'Olenegorski Gorniak' suffers "serious damage" as a result of the attack suffered on Friday and which Ukraine already reported, although responsibility for the event was not attributed.

"Images of the ship listing to 30 or 40 degrees suggest that several watertight compartments were breached or that the crew's damage control efforts were inefficient," British Defense Intelligence said in its usual daily report.

As detailed by London, the 'Olenegorski Gorniak' is a ship that usually served the Northern Fleet but, in the context of the war, Russia has chosen to send it to the Black Sea Fleet and has often transported civilian personnel and military to Crimea.

"This is a significant blow to the North Sea Fleet, which had previously relocated its units to (the port of) Novorossisk due to the great threat to Sevastopol," the British Ministry of Defense reported.

Specifically, the 'Olenegorski Gorniak' weighs 3,600 tons and is 113 meters long, making it the second largest ship that Russia has lost in recent months since the 'Moskva', in April 2022, barely a a month and a half into the war.
