UEFA welcomes the "unequivocal conclusions" of the CJEU General Advocate on the Super League

MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

UEFA has welcomed this Thursday "with great satisfaction" the "unequivocal" opinion of the General Advocate of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), supporting the veto of the European body and FIFA to the organization of the Super League by a group of teams, "protecting the pyramid" of European football, according to a statement.

"UEFA welcomes the unequivocal conclusions presented by the Advocate General, which are an encouraging step towards preserving the current dynamic and democratic governance structure of the European football pyramid," UEFA applauded.

The body chaired by Aleksander Ceferin pointed out that the conclusions "reinforce the central role of federations in protecting sport" and defend "sporting merit and open access", as well as "uniting football with shared responsibility and solidarity".

"Football in Europe stands united and strongly opposes ESL, or any such spin-off proposal, which would threaten the entire European sports ecosystem," the statement said.

Following the Advocate General's report, UEFA will remain "fully focused on its mission to develop football for all", collaborating with national associations, leagues, clubs, players, fans, institutions, governments and other stakeholders . The Court's final ruling is expected to be announced next year.
