Two dead and ten injured in a fire in a restaurant in Plaza Manuel Becerra (Madrid)

Two people have died this Friday night and another ten have been injured, six of them serious and four minor, in a fire registered in a restaurant in the Plaza de Manuel Becerra, in the Salamanca district, as reported to Europa Press Emergency sources Madrid.

The causes of the fire are being investigated, but the flames spread rapidly through the roof and walls of the establishment. About ten ambulances and toilets from Samur-Civil Protection, Summa-112, Madrid Municipal Police and National Police have traveled to the scene of the event, the aforementioned sources have explained.

For their part, some twelve Madrid City Council Fire Departments, which have arrived with some speed from the park located on Rufino Blanco street, have rescued twelve people, customers and restaurant workers from the premises, in addition to extinguishing the fire, whose flames have spread outside the establishment, leaving a large amount of smoke in the street.

"Our response time has been very fast, because half of the crews have left running and the other half with the vehicles" explained the Chief of Madrid Fire Department, Carlos Marín.

Upon arrival, they found that the people had moved to the back of the premises due to the proximity of the flames to the door, so they were "completely trapped".

"Fortunately, the speed of the firefighters' actions has meant that those people who were trapped inside inhaling smoke have been rescued quite quickly," said Marín, to which he added that all those rescued have handed them over to "companions of samur".

After the rescue, the work of the firefighters has been to control that there is no smoke affectation in the nearby housing blocks and notification and coordination work between all the services.

The six seriously injured have been transferred to hospitals in La Paz, the San Carlos Clinic, Gregorio Marañón and Getafe. Thus, the slightly injured have been moved to the La Princesa hospital.
