Former United States President Donald Trump has assured during an interview with NBC News that he ignored the legal advice of White House lawyers who asked him not to seek the annulment of the 2020 presidential elections and admit his defeat.
"We have a lot of people, and it's my decision. It was my decision. But I listened to some people (...) I didn't respect them as lawyers. But I respected others. I respected many others who said the elections were rigged," he declared. the former president.
When asked about the four lawsuits he faces -- for negligence in the use of confidential documents, for attempting to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election, for attempting to manipulate the election results, and for the alleged payment of a bribery of porn film actress Stephanie Clifford--, Trumo has assured that he is not afraid of going to jail.
"I don't even think about it. I'm built a little differently, I guess, because I've had people come up to me and say, 'How do you do it, sir? How do you do it? I don't even think about it,'" he confessed.
Furthermore, he has assured that "it is very unlikely" that he will grant himself a pardon if he is convicted and wins the next presidential elections, something that is not prevented by US law.
"I think it's very unlikely. What, what have I done wrong? I haven't done anything wrong. Do you mean that because I challenge an election they want to put me in jail?" the former president asked himself.
On the other hand, he has called the sentences against some of the Capitol attackers "unfair" after Trump insisted that those elections were fraudulent.
"We have to treat people fairly. These people on January 6 (...) some of them didn't even enter the building, and they are being given sentences of, you know, many years," he said.
Despite this, he has not confirmed whether he will grant them a presidential pardon, although he has promised to examine this option to conclude whether it is "appropriate."
