They burn down the house of the Libyan prime minister and break into the Foreign Ministry in Tripoli, according to media

MADRID, 28 (EUROPA PRESS)

A group of protesters set fire to the house of Libya's prime minister of unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeidé, on Sunday night, and broke into the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the context of the protests that have arisen in the country , after learning that the head of the portfolio, Najla Mangush, has met in Italy with her Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, despite the fact that relations between the two countries are non-existent because Libya does not recognize the State of Israel and is a staunch ally of the Palestinian cause.

According to local media reports, the protesters have written the words "Down with the government of traitors" on the walls of the Ministry's headquarters, while the sounds of bullets have been heard inside the building.

The entrance to the UN headquarters in the Janzur neighborhood was also set on fire, all in the capital. Likewise, protests have been reported in other cities, beyond Tripoli, and roads have been blocked.

Minutes earlier, the Libyan Prime Minister, Abdulhamid Dbeidé, announced the suspension of his functions and an investigation into his Foreign Minister for the meeting with Cohen, after the meeting generated a wave of criticism among the various Libyan institutions.

After that, Mangush would have left the country overnight in a private plane, which has traveled from the Mitiga International Airport (Tripoli) to Turkey, according to local media.

The Israeli government announced this Sunday that the meeting had taken place a few days ago and that the meeting constituted a "historic step" in relations between the two countries. The Libyan Foreign Ministry, which confirmed the meeting, described it as "informal" and assured that the minister "clearly and unequivocally defended" the Palestinian cause.
