MADRID, 30 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A man who participated in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 has been arrested this Thursday in the Washington neighborhood where former United States President Barack Obama resides.

The 37-year-old man, identified as Taylor Taranto, had materials to make explosives and an active arrest warrant related to the assault on the Capitol, according to the CBS television network.

The secret service saw him near Obama's home, Taranto fled to the house and the agents chased him, arresting him before arriving. The detainee's truck was parked nearby, where there were multiple weapons and materials to make an explosive device.

According to a senior official, Taranto had been in the Washington area for a couple of months. They had seen him camping in his truck near the jail where many of the January 6 defendants are being held. He had recently conducted live broadcasts on social media against public figures.

Taranto has been accused of being a fugitive from justice, according to the Metropolitan Police. It is unknown if the Obama family were in the building at the time.
