The United States, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom have published a joint statement in which they have expressed their "firm and unanimous support" for Israel and their strong condemnation of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and its "acts of terrorism."

"We make it clear that Hamas' terrorist actions have no justification or legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never justification for terrorism. In recent days, the world has watched in horror as Hamas terrorists massacred families in their homes , murdered more than 200 young people who were enjoying a music festival and kidnapped elderly women, children and entire families, who are now being held hostage," the statement reads.

Furthermore, they have defended Israel's right to "defend its people from such atrocities," and have stressed the importance of "no party hostile to Israel" attempting to take advantage of this moment.

In that sense, the five countries have reiterated their union and coordination "as allies and as common friends of Israel" to defend them from the Hamas attack and to establish "the conditions for a peaceful and integrated region."

"All of us recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
