The Spanish Church renounces the exemption from Construction Tax after agreeing with the Government

MADRID, 29 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Spain and the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), with the consent of the Holy See, have reached an agreement whereby the waiver of exemptions, derived from the Agreements, that affect Contributions, is processed before the Holy See. Special and the Tax on Constructions, Installations and Works (ICIO).

To this end, the Government will proceed to the repeal of the Ministerial Order of June 5, 2001 of the Ministry of Economy and Finance which regulates the inclusion of the ICIO in the Agreement between the Spanish State and the Holy See on Economic Affairs, according to reported in a joint statement.

In this sense, they specify that this agreement is developed in "the will shared between the Government of Spain and the Spanish Episcopal Conference to equate the fiscal regime of the Catholic Church with non-profit entities, in accordance with the principle of non-privilege and discrimination".

The agreement becomes effective this Wednesday through the corresponding exchange of notes between the Government and the Apostolic Nunciature.
