They will intensify contacts with the parties starting Friday: "A new stage opens"

MADRID, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE hopes that the investiture session of the acting president of the Government and socialist candidate for re-election, Pedro Sánchez, will take place from the second half of October, although the date has yet to be finalized, as it depends on the agreements with other formations, mainly with the Catalan independence movement.

One of the supports they have in the socialist leadership is that of the Canarian Coalition, despite the fact that this formation voted in favor of the PP candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the vote this Wednesday in the Congress of Deputies.

The 'popular' leader, however, did not achieve the necessary majority and will not achieve it in the second vote that will take place in 48 hours. From that moment on, it will be Sánchez's turn to try to rally support to continue in La Moncloa. In fact, his party plans to increase contacts with the rest of the parties from that moment on, according to several sources from the PSOE and Moncloa who maintain that as of Friday "a new stage opens."

Thus, one of the main leaders of the PSOE considers that it would be very tight to hold an investiture session before the Pilar long weekend, on October 12 and therefore it should be held at least in the second half of the month.

The stopwatch to prevent the Chambers from being dissolved and there being new elections is already running and there must be a new president within two months after the first vote, that is, before November 27.

In the socialist ranks they avoid specifying more about the date of Sánchez's election, but remember that it does not depend solely on them but that they need to reach agreements with other formations. Mainly they must close an agreement with Junts, the party of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, which demands an amnesty for those prosecuted for the process.

The timing of the investiture is not simple, next week - October 4 and 5 - Sánchez will be in Granada to participate in the meeting of the European Political Community and the informal meeting of the heads of State and Government of the Union European. In addition, on October 31, Princess Leonor will swear in the Constitution but, according to what they indicate, this act will not affect the date of the investiture.

So far, the PSOE has avoided commenting on a hypothetical amnesty, arguing that it was time for Feijóo's inauguration. However, in recent weeks they have been insisting that once his failure was confirmed, it would be Sánchez's turn and at that time they would give the appropriate explanations.

Therefore, according to prominent socialist leaders, starting this Friday - after the second vote for Feijóo and the confirmation of the failure of his investiture - a new stage begins and the socialists will increase their contacts and exchanges with the rest of the political forces to tie down the necessary supports. In any case, they specify, they will wait for the King's order to carry out the formal meetings.

On the same Friday, the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, is scheduled to travel to La Zarzuela to inform the King that the investiture has not gone ahead and then the monarch will open a new round of contacts with political leaders. This could take place between Monday and Tuesday of next week and would culminate with the designation of Sánchez as a candidate.

Sánchez's explanations, which have been postponed throughout the month, may occur at different times, according to sources close to him. In this regard, they confirm that after the King's appointment, the acting president will appear in Moncloa.

Furthermore, as you remember, there are several interventions in the coming days, in which more details of the Government's plans regarding the investiture agreements and the amnesty can be learned. This Saturday Sánchez will be in La Rinconada (Seville) at a match event and next week he will answer questions from the media at a press conference in Granada.

The sources consulted also indicate that Sánchez is "serene" about the days ahead and after two days of investiture in which he has remained silent, since he declined to answer Feijóo at his investiture and delegated this task to the deputy and former mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente.

Although the main obstacle for Sánchez to continue in La Moncloa are the pro-independence parties and in particular Junts, the PSOE needs to close agreements with more parties. One of them is the Canarian Coalition, which could give its support to the PSOE despite having voted for Feijóo this Wednesday.

In the PSOE they assume that they will have the favorable vote of this party and assure that the "Canarian agenda" will move forward, in reference to the set of measures that the Canarian Coalition sets as a condition for delivering their votes.

In this regard, sources from the Canary Coalition point out that their vote is also conditioned on the position that the PSOE finally adopts on the amnesty and therefore "when they speak clearly" they will decide the meaning of their vote. They also point out that they have not spoken with the socialists again since the negotiations for the Constitution of the Congressional Board, in August.
