The president of the House of Representatives takes the first step towards an impeachment against Biden

The president of the United States House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, has ordered the opening of an investigation against President Joe Biden for allegedly protecting the businesses of his son Hunter, accused of having amassed a fortune through business agreements with foreign companies.

McCarthy assured in a press conference that Biden "has lied about his family's businesses abroad" and that he has had calls, dinners and meetings with his son's business partners. The investigation, a possible first step towards an impeachment that has little chance of succeeding, will seek to obtain the banking records of Biden and his son Hunter.

The Speaker of the House has assured that the Biden family has earned up to $20 million thanks to trade agreements since Biden is in the Oval Office. "Despite these serious accusations, it appears that Biden's family has received special treatment from the Administration," he indicated.

"I have not made this decision lightly. Regardless of your party or who you voted for, these events should concern all Americans. People should know that public offices are not for sale and that the federal government should not be used to cover up the actions of a family member," he added.

The investigation will be led by the chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, James Comer, in coordination with the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, and the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Jason Smith, The portal has reported. Hill.

Following McCarthy's statements, the White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, Ian Sams, has assured on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, that the House has investigated Biden "for nine months and has found no evidence of irregularities".

"His own members of the Republican Party have said so. He promised to hold a vote to open an impeachment trial. Now he has changed his mind because he has no support. Extreme politics at its worst," he added, alluding to the extreme right.

The House of Representatives has the authority to initiate an impeachment. If the investigation led by the committees determines that there are indications that Biden may have committed a crime, Biden's impeachment trial would take place in the Senate.

However, for it to prosper, a qualified two-thirds majority is required in the Senate, which is currently controlled by Democrats, so it will likely be rejected by the Upper House.

Former President Donald Trump survived two impeachments after being accused of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for pressuring Ukrainian authorities to harm the Biden family. At that time the House of Representatives enjoyed a Democratic majority.

The business activity of Hunter Biden, experienced in consulting firms and pressure groups, has been a recurring source of criticism, especially due to his relationships with foreign firms and following the promotion of his father.
