The PP on the rise of Montero: Sánchez seeks the "shock" although Puigdemont is the "real" vice president

MADRID, 29 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PP reacted this Friday to the changes announced by Pedro Sánchez in the Government after the departure of Nadia Calviño, considering the promotion of María Jesús Montero to first vice president a sign that the head of the Executive seeks a "clash" with the main party of the opposition and has maintained that it is a "symbolic" vice presidency because the "real" one is the former president of Catalonia and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont.

Sources from the PP point to the fact that the current Minister of Finance - already deputy general secretary of the PSOE, 'number two' of the party - will from now on also be the second in the Government's ranks, replacing Calviño, who is leaving the Executive to preside over the European Investment Bank (EIB).

In this sense, those of Alberto Núñez Feijóo emphasize that the Government spokesperson and Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, is also the national spokesperson for the PSOE.

Something that, in his opinion, represents "the demonstration that Sánchez wants a trench government and is more concerned about clashing with the PP than about dignifying public management."

For the PP, the first vice presidency is a "symbolic" responsibility in the current Government because "the true first vice president, although he does not sit in the Council of Ministers, controls it from Switzerland and monitors it from Brussels," in reference to Puigdemont, Sánchez's investiture partner.

The PP considers this remodeling of the Executive a "lost opportunity" to reduce it, since it maintains the "same number of members, same number of payrolls, cars, advisors...".

In addition to the promotion of Montero, who had been serving as fourth vice president, Sánchez has announced that the until now general secretary of the Public Treasury and International Financing, Carlos Corpo, will succeed Calviño as head of the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business.
