MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Majadahonda judge who is investigating alleged irregularities committed within the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has requested information about a trip that its president, Luis Rubiales, made to New York (United States) in 2018.
In an order of July 14, advanced by El Confidencial to which Europa Press has had access, Judge Delia Rodrigo Díaz has requested — at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office — that “the supporting documents of said trip be attached to the case “.
It should be remembered that the head of the Investigating Court Number 4 of Majadahonda opened the investigation in 2022 after receiving a complaint filed by the leader of the National Soccer Coaches Training Center (CENAFE), Miguel Ángel Galán, to which he later joined the lawsuit filed by the Manos Limpias union.
The complaints for alleged crimes of corruption in business and unfair administration pointed to, among other issues, the alleged commissions charged by the RFEF and the company of former Barcelona Football Club player Gerard Piqué for the Spanish Super Cup tournament to be played in Saudi Arabia.
Reference was also made to a “pleasure trip” to New York that Rubiales would have paid for with money from the Soccer Federation. “The trip would have occurred between October 31 and November 4, 2018, just five months after becoming president of the federal entity,” according to the complainants.
The Majadahonda judge agreed to open preliminary proceedings since she considered that the denounced facts had “the characteristics of an alleged crime of unfair administration and corruption in business.” In the framework of the investigations, the head of the court requested information from Piqué; Specifically, she asked him to provide the contract that his company –Kosmos– signed with the RFEF.
The investigation continues its course after last June the magistrate extended the investigations for another six months. Apart from this procedure, Rubiales accumulates at least two complaints before the Higher Sports Council (CSD) for an alleged serious offense after she kissed the Spanish team player Jenni Hermoso on the lips after winning the Soccer World Cup.
