The Japanese writer Haruki Murakami has been awarded the 2023 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature. The jury read the decision this Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Hotel Eurostars de la Reconquista in Oviedo.

This award, to which 37 candidates from 17 nationalities opted, is the fifth of the eight international awards that the Foundation convenes annually, and which this year reach their XLIII edition.

The Princess of Asturias Awards are intended, according to its Regulations, to reward "the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out by people, institutions, groups of people or institutions in the international arena".

In accordance with these principles, the Princess of Asturias Award for Letters will be awarded to "the work of cultivating and perfecting literary creation in all its genres".
