The Government confirms the death of the Spanish Iván Illarramendi, kidnapped by Hamas in Israel

The Spaniard Iván Illarramendi, who was kidnapped by Hamas, has died, as confirmed to Europa Press by diplomatic sources, who have not yet given more details about the exact circumstances of the death.

Illarramendi, a native of Zarautz (Guipúzcoa), lived with his wife, a Chilean national, in the Kissufim kibbutz, very close to the border with the Gaza Strip, and which was attacked by Hamas during the surprise assault by land, sea and air perpetrated last October 7.

After several days without concrete information about his situation, after having learned that he had been affected by the terrorist attack, the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, had finally confirmed that Illarramendi was in the hands of Hamas on October 17.

Her death joins that of Maya Villalobo, who died the same day as the Hamas attack against Israel, although her death was not known until days later. The young woman was doing her military service in the Israeli Army, since she had dual nationality, and she died in the military post where she was stationed very close to the border with Gaza.
