The deficit falls in 2022 to 4.8% of GDP, up to 63,776 million, and improves the Government's objective

MADRID, 30 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The deficit of the public administrations as a whole (AAPP) closed 2022 at 4.8% of GDP, below the figure for 2021 (6.9%), and stood at 63,776 million euros, managing to improve the objective committed by the government with Brussels.

This is clear from the budget execution data of the public administrations corresponding to the year 2022 exposed this Thursday at a press conference by the Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero.

The head of the Treasury has highlighted that the closing figure confirmed this Thursday reflects an improvement compared to the estimates made by international and national analysts, as well as by the Government itself, which set its objective for the whole year at 5 %.

In addition, the minister has stated that Spain is the fourth country in the European Union with the greatest deficit reduction since the pandemic, since in two years it has fallen by half, going from 10.1% in 2020 to 4.8% in 2022. "It is the largest deficit reduction in history in two years," Montero stressed.

According to the person in charge of the Treasury, the collection in 2022 grew by 14.4% compared to 2021, mainly as a consequence of the growth of the economy and the evolution of employment. However, five points of the increase in collection can be explained by inflation. "The increase in prices last year only explains a third of the increase in collection," explained the minister.
