The attorney general defends that "the duty of confidentiality has been safeguarded" in the case of Ayuso's partner

He says in a letter to the president of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers that the "concrete" proposal of compliance was not revealed

MADRID, 18 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, has defended in a letter to the president of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers that "the duty of confidentiality has been safeguarded in the case of Alberto G.A., partner of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

"Incontrovertibly far from the truth, it is that the objective and will of the Prosecutor's Office could be to interfere in the sacred lawyer-client relationships and, even more, to reveal the content of a negotiation offer from a lawyer to the Prosecutor's Office," García Ortiz maintains in the letter, to which Europa Press has had access.

In this sense, the head of the Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that "the specific eight-page conformity proposal, dated February 2, 2024 and addressed to the economic crimes section of the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor's Office, was not revealed or communicated to public opinion".

Thus, García Ortiz understands that "the duty of confidentiality has been safeguarded" and that in the press release from the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor's Office "only those aspects (known in advance by public opinion as a consequence of an undesirable leak) were communicated." which were essential to remove any shadow of suspicion over the actions of the prosecutors", whose "professionalism and honorability" he must "protect and defend" as attorney general.

The head of the Public Ministry thus responds to the "institutional declaration in defense of respect for the confidentiality of communications in the action protocols for conformity trials" that the General Council of Spanish Lawyers adopted last Friday in relation to the complaint of the Prosecutor's Office against Alberto G.A.

In a statement, also reported by this news agency, the body condemned the alleged "dissemination of the specific content of communications" between the defense of Alberto G. A., and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid, pointing out that this represented "a clear violation of the guarantee of confidentiality" between the parties. And he demanded an investigation "to determine his authorship and initiate criminal or disciplinary actions against whoever corresponds."
