MADRID, 30 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The Taiwan Ministry of Defense has reported that ten combat aircraft and six warships of the Chinese Army have been detected in the vicinity of the island this Sunday morning.
In addition, one of the fighters has crossed its airspace in the southwest of the island, and the Taiwanese Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded with the deployment of aircraft, boats and land-based missile systems, as they have published on their Twitter account. .
Last Friday, the Taiwanese authorities warned that two reconnaissance drones from the People's Liberation Army had flown over the island "for the first time" shortly after reporting that almost twenty Chinese planes entered their airspace.
On the same day, the Chinese Armed Forces reported the detection of a US Air Force fighter flying over the Taiwan Strait.
The escalation of tensions in the region began with the trip to the island of the then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in August of last year.
The situation worsened after the visit of the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, to the North American country, where she met several US congressmen despite warnings from Beijing.
Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the territory under its sovereignty.
The Chinese government's fundamental policy towards Taiwan has so far been one of peaceful reunification under the "one country, two systems" principle.
