STATEMENT: Solar panels in neighborhood communities cost €6 thousand and save almost a thousand a year, according to SotySolar

Madrid, May 8, 2023.

Almost half of the Spaniards (45.4%) who live in a flat or apartment do not know if they can install an alternative energy source in their home. Financing and payment convenience (63.4%), subsidies (59.9%) and facilities for installation (43.3%) are the three most important issues when opting for an energy installation renewable. The amortization of the installation, carried out with subsidies, occurs after 3 years on average, with a useful life of 25 years.

The communities of owners already have the possibility of installing solar panels to benefit from the collective self-consumption of photovoltaic energy after the recent modification of the Horizontal Property Law, which modifies and facilitates obtaining the necessary majorities to establish agreements, carry out works that improve energy efficiency and request the appropriate subsidies. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about these facilities. According to the SotySolar Renewable Energy Study, almost half of Spaniards (45.4%) who live in a flat or apartment do not know if they can install an alternative energy source in their home. Despite this, 87.6% of those surveyed would like to use renewable energy. Within collective self-consumption, the residents of a community have two possibilities: that the installation is used for electricity consumption only in common areas. In this case, 2/3 of the parties in the community of owners must agree. For an average building with 4 floors and 3 homes per floor, it will be 3-4 kW, around a price of 6,000 euros, distributed among each of the residents of the community. These facilities allow the community to achieve savings of between 500 and 800 euros per year. The other possibility is if the neighbor also decides to benefit from the use of the facility for private self-consumption. In this case, the installed power would be 12 kW to ensure the energy supply capacity of common areas and homes that wish to benefit from the energy produced. Each of the interested persons would contribute an additional amount between 500 and 1,500 euros depending on the free space on the roof and consumption. This additional connection allows savings of between 180 and 495 euros per year. The costs and savings noted above are the theoretical ones that can be produced for a typical home. Luz Benítez, Chief Sales Officer SotySolar, highlights that "collective self-consumption installations are highly profitable With public aid, the installation is amortized in a period of 3 years, with a useful life of 25 years. The improvement in energy efficiency and savings on the electricity bill are two of the great advantages of shared self-consumption" .Financing and payment facilities (63.4%), subsidies (59.9%), and facilities for installation (43.3%) are the three most important issues when opting for an installation of renewable energy. The Next Generation EU funds make it possible to subsidize these facilities. The amount varies according to the kWp installed and according to the percentage of energy savings. The aid is between 355 and 710 euros per kWp for installations with powers between 10 kW and 5,000 kW. The town halls offer aid on the IBI and the ICIO with amounts that cover between 50 and 95%. In addition, the annual income tax may be deducted between 20 and 60%, depending on the improvement in energy efficiency.
