STATEMENT: Business tourism and congresses in Mallorca will recover its pre-pandemic activity in 2023

(Information sent by the signatory company)

Mallorca, March 14, 2023.

Business tourism in Mallorca will recover its pre-pandemic activity in 2023 after some difficult years, in which the sector had to reinvent itself as a result of the restrictions imposed by the health situation. And it will do so with hybrid, innovative and sustainable events, which will set the trend for the coming years. These are some of the conclusions of the sixth edition of 'Mallorca Loves MICE' held this weekend in Alcúdia

The Alcúdia auditorium has been the epicenter of this sixth edition of 'Mallorca Loves MICE', with the participation of some 200 incentive tourism professionals, congresses and events, representing some 40 companies in the sector and some 20 national and international agencies, in the largest meeting of professionals in the MICE sector of all those held in the Balearic Islands. The well-known and multifaceted presenter and comedian Ángel Martín has been in charge of leading an event organized by the Pidelaluna Events agency under the slogan 'Events, happiness and good vibes'. The day was inaugurated by the mayor of Alcúdia, Domingo Bonnín, its councilor of Tourism, Josep Cladera, and the director of Transition and Tourism Planning of the Consell de Mallorca, Joan Gaspar Vallori. As host of this edition of 'Mallorca Loves MICE', which until now had been held in Palma, Bonnín highlighted "the commitment to congress tourism, incentive trips, meetings and conventions, as a complement to sun and beach tourism" of the Alcudia municipality. For his part, Gaspar Vallori referred to "the importance of the business tourism sector for the Consell as one of the pillar products in seasonal adjustment". Andreu Serra, Minister of Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca, later joined the the day and has done so by participating in a round table on "Trends in events". In his speech, Serra highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration as the way forward to strengthen the sector and continue making Mallorca a top-level international MICE destination. In this sense, he referred to the recent entry of the Mallorca Council and the Palma City Council into the Mallorca Convention Bureau, "which demonstrates our commitment to the business tourism and congress sector, because Mallorca has great potential that we must leverage". For her part, Alessa Comis, director of Pidelaluna Events, has referred to the current situation of the congress and business tourism sector. "After a few years complicated by the pandemic, in 2022 the recovery of business tourism began and the prospects are good for 2023", said the director of Pidelaluna Events, recently recognized by the Eventex Awards in the world top 100 of the most influential people in the events industry. The current edition of 'Mallorca Loves MICE' has had the institutional support of the City Council, the Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme, and the Agència d'Estratègia Turística de les Illes Balears (AETIB), through funding from the European Union Next Generation EU, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. In this 2023 edition, the special Partners of the event are: Es Príncep and Mon Hotels, Agrupación Hotelera de Alcúdia, EventTwo, THB Hotels, Elba Hotels, Lo Music, PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort
