Sánchez, on the racist insults to Vinícius in Mestalla: "Zero tolerance for racism in football"

MADRID, 22 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has claimed on Monday "zero tolerance for racism in football" in response to the racist insults made to Real Madrid striker Vinícius during the match played on Sunday at the Mestalla stadium between Valencia and Real Madrid .

For the head of the Executive, sport "is based on the values of tolerance and respect." "Hate and xenophobia should have no place in our football or in our society," Sánchez said in a message posted on the social network Twitter, collected by Europa Press, in which he shared the statement from the Higher Sports Council (CSD ) condemning the facts.

In this context, the CSD has attributed a "minority of exalted" against the Brazilian footballer and has announced that it will propose to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga to carry out a joint awareness campaign against racism and xenophobia aimed at fans.

The events took place on Sunday night when shouts of "monkey" were heard from the stands of the Mestalla directed at the Real Madrid striker. Vini Jr. refused to play, while the referee De Burgos Bengoetxea initiated the protocol against racism and a warning was issued over the public address system. However, the match continued and Vinícius was sent off shortly after in an action with Hugo Duro.

Likewise, the Prosecutor's Office has officially opened an investigation to determine if the racist insults uttered to Vinícius during the match constitute a hate crime, as reported by the Prosecutor's Office.

In addition, this same Monday, Real Madrid has denounced the case before the State Attorney General's Office (FGE). The Association of Spanish Soccer Players (AFE) and the Movement against Intolerance (MCI) have also announced a complaint before the same headquarters.
