Sánchez meets for 70 minutes with Bildu, first photo of a President of the Government with the nationalist left

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The socialist presidential candidate for the investiture, Pedro Sánchez, met this Friday in Congress for 70 minutes with the Bildu spokespersons in Congress, Mertxe Aizpurua, and in the Senate, Gorka Elejabarrieta, in what was the first photograph of a president of the Government with representatives of the nationalist left that was once linked to the terrorist group ETA.

Until now, it was usual for Sánchez to delegate meetings with minority formations to his parliamentary spokespersons, but this time he has decided to take them on in person, at least in the first contact, and then give way to a negotiating commission that will specify details over time. starting next week.

That is why the last investiture 'photo' of the PSOE with EH Bildu starred Adriana Lastra, then number two of the party and socialist spokesperson, at the beginning of 2020.

Bildu's abstention made it possible for Pedro Sánchez to be sworn in as president of the Government in January 2020 and in that legislature the Socialist Group later signed a parliamentary agreement with the nationalist left.

But now a further step has been taken and the President of the Government has formally received a delegation from Bildu at the offices of the Socialist Group in Congress. The PSOE secretary of organization, Santos Cerdán from Navarre, also attended the meeting.

EH Bildu is a coalition where the majority force is Sortu, the party led by Arnaldo Otegi and which has the last head of ETA, David Pla, in its leadership. In the last municipal elections he included convicted members of the terrorist group on his lists, but under political pressure he chose to rectify and force his resignation.

They are also part of the coalition Eusko Alkartasuna (party created from a split of the PNV), Aralar (formed by members of the abertzale left who condemned ETA, and Alternatiba (split of IUEB),

Although there is no agreement publicly sealed, the PSOE has the votes of the six deputies of the nationalist coalition, since from the beginning their spokespersons have made it clear that they will do whatever it takes to avoid an electoral repetition that could give the government to the PP. and Vox.
