Sánchez compares his rectification with Catalonia with that of Suárez to legalize the PCE and Gonzalez to enter the OTA

He asks not to compare Yolanda Díaz with Abascal and rejects a self-determination referendum in Catalonia because the Constitution does not allow it

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, today compared his rectification with Catalonia with those carried out by Adolfo Suárez, to legalize the Communist Party, or Felipe González, to enter NATO. He has also asked that Yolanda Díaz not be compared to Santiago Abascal and has rejected the possibility of a self-determination referendum in Catalonia because the Constitution does not allow it and goes against what he has done over the years.

This was stated tonight on the Antena 3 program, El Hormiguero, where Pablo Motos asked him if he does not believe that people think that he treats them like fools when he says that he is not lying but that he changes his position.

Pedro Sánchez has said that he regrets that it can be interpreted in this way and has specified that "lying is saying something that you know is not true with the intention of deceiving". He has given as an example what other former presidents of the Government did. Thus, he has asked if Adolfo Suárez lied when he said that he was not going to legalize the Communist Party of Spain and then legalized it, or if Felipe González lied when he said that "NATO would not enter" and then organized a referendum to enter the Atlantic Alliance.

That, the head of the Executive has specified, "is not lying, it is rectifying" and in his opinion, "they rectified well" because it was good to legalize the Communist Party and enter NATO. For Sánchez, lying is March 11 and "knowing that the person behind it is not ETA" and saying that the perpetrators are not in distant mountains.

As for Catalonia, he has denied that if he becomes president again, a referendum on self-determination will be held because, as he has stated, "constitutionally it is not possible" and it also goes against what he has defended in the last five years, " unite Catalan society" and facilitate "coexistence", as he pointed out.

In this regard, he has also claimed that in the five years that he has been in charge of the Government, no consultation on self-determination has been carried out in this autonomous community, but when the Popular Party governed "two were held", he has reproached.

Likewise, Sánchez has remarked that neither the Spanish Constitution nor those of the rest of the countries recognize "the right of a territory to segregate from a country." Finally, he has indicated that dividing Catalan society into whether or not you are pro-independence means "returning to an error" that in his opinion has already been overcome.

ASK NOT TO COMPARE DÍAZ WITH ABASCAL

On the other hand, Sánchez has asked that the first vice president and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, not be equated with the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, when asked if he could facilitate a PP government to prevent Vox from entering the Government .

In this sense, he has also been questioned about the possibility of pacts between PSOE and PP to prevent the influence of parties such as Vox, Podemos or Sumar. "I would not compare Yolanda Díaz with Santiago Abascal, I would not," he claimed.

The president, as he has done in other programs in which he has intervened, did not want to point out which programs he was referring to, but he has insisted that public opinion is one thing and published opinion another, stressing that in the media there are more conservative-oriented commentators who, according to him, have nothing to do with public opinion that feels progressive.

And although he has admitted that this country is free, he has affirmed that opinion is one thing and facts are another, immediately warning that it cannot be said that he has called the elections for July 23 because he wants to alter the electoral result and that he is committing electoral fraud.
