Sánchez affirms that "if Feijóo did not depend on Vox he would have approved the amnesty"

MADRID, 11 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assured that the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, would have approved an amnesty "if it did not depend on Vox."

Sánchez emphasizes that "he is convinced" that Feijóo would have materialized an amnesty for the independentists since "he came to speak with Junts." "Conversations that have never been clarified," he says in an interview in La Voz de Galicia collected by Europa Press.

Sánchez's interview was carried out before late this Saturday several media outlets published that the party would be open to a pardon for Puigdemont conditional on him being held accountable before Justice, as well as renouncing the referendum and the unilateral route.

The PP has indicated that the conditions do not exist to pardon the former Catalan president and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, because he is still on the run from Spanish Justice and does not regret what he did in the 'procés', while recognizing that studied his support for an amnesty for Catalan independentists but rejected it "in less than 24 hours."

The President of the Government recalls that José María Aznar "pardoned 1,400 people in a single day."

In his opinion, the situation in Catalonia with the PP governments between 2011 and 2017 "only worsened" and he affirms, on the other hand, that from 2018 until now "the situation has only improved." For Sánchez, the explanation for this change lies in "politics" and "the reunion."

"The only way to govern Spain is by understanding its political pluralism and its territorial diversity. The amnesty is brave, restorative and constitutional," he maintains.
