Salvaged wreckage from Titan submersible contains "presumptive human remains"

MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has reported that it has received debris including "presumptive human remains" of the five people who were in the Titan submersible, which imploded during a dive to see the remains of the Titanic.

The USCG has indicated that medical professionals will carry out a formal analysis "of the presumed human remains that have been carefully recovered from the wreckage at the incident site," according to a statement.

"The evidence will provide investigators in various international jurisdictions with critical information about the cause of this tragedy," said Jason Neubauer, head of the Marine Board of Investigation (MBI).

"There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to Titan's catastrophic loss and help ensure that a similar tragedy does not happen again," Neubauer said.

According to the letter, the US Coast Guard has received "debris and evidence recovered from the seabed at the site of the Titan submersible." The MBI intends to transport the evidence to a port where it "will be able to facilitate further analysis and testing."

The submersible lost contact with the tour operator an hour and 45 minutes after the two-hour descent to the wreck, and the vessel was reported missing eight hours after communication was lost.

The deceased are the British adventurer Hamish Harding, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood; the executive director of the company responsible for the ship, Stockton Rush; and the French citizen Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
