MADRID, 16 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The player of the Spanish team Rodrigo Hernández 'Rodri' assured that the 26 chosen by the coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, make a united group in which they are "like brothers" and added that they will go "to the death" in the World Cup in Qatar, It starts this Sunday and they want to win.
"You don't have to look at those who don't come. We have a young but mature team in many ways. We have experienced Eurocups and Nations League. We are focused on the 26 who are here, we are going to go to the death and we are like brothers", he assured in Press conference.
Rodri, before facing Jordan in the last warm-up friendly, recalled that this group, despite its youth, is already united and has experienced important matches. "We've been together for a while and we know what the coach wants and we're going to fight until the end," he reiterated.
"I think that youth is a matter of age. The players who come have quite a lot of experience, young people who have played important games. Vitality and energy give you another plus and the coach has required these 26 players. We will try to make every moment be good", added the Manchester City midfielder.
In fact, he thinks that they only need the 'plus' of being able to win a title. "We are the European team that is there the most (finalists in the League of Nations 2020 and semifinalists in Euro 2020). "Honestly? We need to win a tournament. I don't see any team standing out, we focus on ourselves and we prefer not to be favourites, because we are not, it is true. But things have to be shown on the pitch," he warned.
"This group has shown that it has the courage to be there (among the best) and that is what we are going to do," said a Rodri who celebrated being under the orders of Pep Guardiola at City and Luis Enrique with Spain. "Only seeing the evolution that I have had as a player, speaks of how they are and how good they are," he acknowledged.
Regarding the World Cup, he acknowledged that it is something "different." "We compete with teams that we are not used to like Costa Rica (America) or Japan (Asia). It's nice, there will be a clash of styles and we have to focus on developing our football," he added.
As for being able to play central if Luis Enrique needs it, he was willing. "It is one of the most similar positions to playing as a pivot. I can adapt perfectly. Due to physical conditions I am prepared. Against Portugal I played as a central defender. What I want is to play and I am open to any option", he valued.
"We are two great players in the same position but we can play together, we have shown it," he said after being asked about the competition with the veteran Sergio Busquets. "I think we won in many aspects, I am convinced that there will be phases of the tournament in which the coach uses the double pivot. With 'Busi' and Xabi Alonso we won a World Cup", he stated.
As for the preparation match against Jordan in Amman, he acknowledged that they take it for what it is; match training. "We come to a preparation match for the World Cup, to do the things we have been doing and preparing for," he added.
"We come (to Qatar) to try to win the World Cup and it is a good test to get feelings and face the game in Costa Rica in the best way," he added in this regard.
Asked about Qatar and its customs, he asked only to be able to focus on football and that human rights be respected, at least during the World Cup. "It is a country that we do not know, we have not been to the Middle East. From the RFEF we want to emphasize that human rights are respected, we will agree on that, to have a calm World Cup and to be able to enjoy the most important thing, which is football," he argued.
