The University has new spaces in the Faculty of Communication Sciences, where students can experiment and innovate with audio and video formats.

Barcelona, March 13, 2023. Starting this academic year, the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona) has new facilities: the Transmedia Lab, a space for innovation and experimentation for students in which They can carry out their audiovisual projects with the latest audio and video technology. 'Transmedia' refers to the different narratives for multiple media and communication platforms, since the necessary technology is available in the same space to be able to experiment with audio and video formats, both in class and in professional practices, as well as in the creation and development of extracurricular projects.

The new space includes a 138m2 digital newsroom and two recording studios with audiovisual equipment, occupying 107m2. Each of the studios has a robotic PTZ camera, Dalet Galaxy professional software and Adobe environment, a digital mixing desk and acoustically conditioned space for six voice-over artists, as well as a station for dubbing films and voice-overs, designed for carrying out projects. of all kinds, including advertising or musicals.

The recording rooms also have 85-inch plasma screens with different functions. Those located on the walls behind the announcers allow the projection of audiovisual content for experimentation and recording with different formats that include logos, infographics, program headers or other brand elements. In front of the announcers there are other large screens that allow you to follow current news or view the images necessary for dubbing.

The Transmedia Lab complements the existing facilities of the Digital Media Studios, consisting of a large television set, its production control and multiple editing and post-production rooms. The set forms an environment to explore genres and formats of both digital sound (radio, podcast, sound fiction, music recording, voiceover, dubbing*) and image (television, videopodcast and mobile journalism), in a real professional environment suitable for the creation of audiovisual content. Thanks to the stands in the studios, students of different grades can follow the classes and practices of their peers, and also allow the public to attend during the recording of the programs.

The newsroom has large tables to work in teams of up to 6 people, with 30 laptops. These computers are equipped with professional Adobe environment software and Dalet Galaxy in wireless network. The newsroom is connected to both studios to allow connection in both image and sound. In the words of Alfonso Méndiz, rector of the UIC, the new facilities "respond to the need for training required by someone who works in the world of audiovisual communication or journalism is the 360 that involves sound, image, movement and live performance ". Its integration in the Faculty contributes to the vocational and professional awakening of the students, as well as to the development of teaching innovation.
