Rapes rose 53% in 2022, according to the Crime Balance of the Ministry of the Interior, which also includes strong increases in attempted homicides (44%) and crimes related to injuries and riots (31%) compared to 2019, the year before the Covid-19 pandemic. In this period, cybercrime also increased by 72%.

According to the Crime Balance for the twelve months of 2022, consulted by Europa Press, the 2.3 million crimes represent an upward variation of 5.7% if compared to 2019, and 18% if the comparison is established with 2021.

The crime rate stands at 48.8 known criminal acts per thousand inhabitants, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, which highlighted in a statement that "Spain maintains a low crime rate compared to values ​​in reference countries European environment, where it reaches 79.5 in the United Kingdom, 60.7 in Germany, 53.9 in Denmark or 74.8 in Belgium".
