Queens of the Stone Age send a rock hit and Sam Smith preaches freedom in Mad Cool

Mumford's Folk Explosion

   MADRID, 8 Jul. ( Michelle Ortega - EUROPA PRESS) - .

The powerful rock of the Americans Queens of the Stone Age has led the second day of the Mad Cool festival, in which the British Sam Smith has shone with his artistic proposal, daring and full of LGTBI pride.

All this has taken place before an audience of almost 70,000 people who have been able to access the Iberdrola Music space more smoothly this Friday, located in the Madrid district of Villaverde, where they have tried to improve other problems such as queues to access the services with the placement of bathrooms near the main stages.

With a temperature of 33 degrees under the sun on July 7, the Americans Puscifer, Maynard James Keenan's group, were among the first to act, around 7:00 p.m. In this way they have transported an audience without fear to other worlds with their experimental songs, to make way for one of the headliners of the day, Sam Smith, who has offered a show full of sensuality. Uncensored and at the level of the great pop divas in repertoire, presence and charisma.

The Briton has started with the well-known ballad 'Stay with me', betting on gold on the stage decoration -a giant statue lying down- and revealing a smile and vocal power that he has maintained during the hour and a half of a show at the who has been backed by several dancers and a virtuoso trio of soulful voices.

With a continuous outpouring of sympathy, defense of freedom and love, he has conquered by singing slow songs like 'Lay me down', wrapped in a large purple dress, and has made the public dance with 'Dancing with stranger', 'Gimme' -with a 'twerk' moment included- or 'Promises'. In most of the songs the dancers have surrendered to sensuality.

The non-binary gender artist, who has been excited to perform before such a mass in Madrid, has effectively said goodbye with 'Gloria', emulating Jesus Christ; a version of Madonna's 'Human nature', which reads "express yourself, don't repress yourself (express yourself, don't repress yourself)", and with the success he shares with Kim Petras, 'Unholy'. And he has done it clad in a black corset with jewelry, fishnet stockings and high boots, stomping and receiving a standing ovation from the attendees.

Then the turn of the main dish of the second day of Mad Cool, Queens of the Stone Age, has come, which has made the audience vibrate with their rock hymns in a memorable live show. With songs with more than two decades of history, such as 'No one knows', the one chosen for an overwhelming start with a sunset in the background, or with other recent ones such as 'Paper machete', from the album that they have released in 2023, the American band has ratified that rock lives, and more in big festivals like this one.

Josh Homme, leader of the group, has been the conductor of his band and a devoted audience, especially in the front rows, a support that has made him feel "very happy". "What a fucking rich", he has also said before some assistants to whom he has awarded the title of "the best of the entire tour".

"We would like to stay here forever", he has already cried out in the final stretch of a concert in which pieces such as 'Make it with chu', 'Little sister' or 'Go with the Flow' have also been given away. His old themes are the ones that work best. These have been tremendously applauded, just like 'Song for the dead'. The rock power of the band, with absolute reign of the guitars, has been for many the best concert of this Mad Cool 2023.

FOLK EXPLOSION WITH MUMFORD

'Little lion man' or 'Ditmas', with Marcus Mumford, the vocalist, in the audience, have marked the spectacle of the British who have put an end to their party with their greatest hymn 'I will wait', which has unleashed yet more euphoria when accompanied by a final batch of fireworks.

The closing of the day, which ended at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, was carried out, among other proposals, by the Australian alternative dance group Rüfüs du Sol on a medium-sized stage and by the American rock band The Black Keys on one of the main stages.

With a much larger audience, the duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have started with 'I got mine' to give free rein to various rock songs in which the instrumental has had great relevance, as has happened with the two previous bands.

Thus the second day of the festival has concluded, in which the main names have served what was expected and the national and international public has savored the proposals as required by the protagonists of an event in which Spaniards such as Delaporte have also sounded - guaranteed party thanks to her electronic pop- and there has been room for surprises such as Rebeca's in the Vibra Mahou Tombola, which has held a continuous festival.

With two days finished, Mad Cool 2023 will conclude this Saturday with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Liam Gallagher, M.I.A. and The Prodigy as headliners that also feature artists such as Jamie XX, Years
