PSOE, Junts and ERC announce an agreement on the amnesty law and will reveal the content this Thursday

PSOE, Junts and ERC have announced an agreement on the amnesty law "after days of joint work" although without revealing its content until tomorrow.

This was announced by the three parties through a joint statement in which they reported that "the full content of said transaction will be announced tomorrow, before the Justice Commission of the Congress of Deputies convened for this purpose."

According to the text, the content of the amnesty law takes into account "the guidelines of constitutional, European and international law, as well as the preliminary report of the Venice Commission."

The PSOE and the pro-independence groups have detailed that they have managed to reach an agreement through a "single transaction based on different amendments that were kept alive to reinforce the amnesty law."

Specifically, they have pointed out that the future amnesty law "covers all people linked to the independence process", however, avoiding clarifying whether the way in which terrorism crimes are included in the law will be modified, which will benefit to those involved in the independence process.

The statement from the three parties also emphasizes that the amnesty law is "fully in accordance with the Constitution, European law and jurisprudence and the best European and international standards."

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, already advanced in a press conference during his official trip to Brazil that we would have to wait for the agreement to see if the modifications to the norm would affect terrorism crimes, as the former president's party had requested. Catalan Carles Puigdemont. "You'll see it in the amendment," he responded verbatim.

On January 30, the Junts deputies opted for 'no' in the overall vote on the law, thus preventing the 176 votes necessary to be approved by the Plenary from being reached, so it was returned to the Justice Commission. which will be held tomorrow at 11:00 am.

The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, has celebrated this agreement, pointing out that after the agreement "a new stage" begins, in which he has highlighted "politics and dialogue" as a "way" to "resolve conflicts."

The socialist deputy and main negotiator with Junts has assessed that the amnesty law is "brave, constitutional and guaranteeing" and leaves behind "the worst crisis of our democracy." "Reconciliation and generosity to continue building, together, a better country," he reacted in a message published on the social network X.
