Podemos demands cutting off all public funding to the Church, which it accuses of "hiding a pedophile plot"

MADRID, 28 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos' Secretary of Institutional Action, María Teresa Pérez, has demanded that all public funding be cut off for the Catholic Church, accusing it of hiding a "pedophile plot" as revealed in the Ombudsman's report.

In statements to the media in Alicante, where he attended a meeting with party activists, he demanded the repeal of the concordat with the Holy See and demanded that the compensation fund for victims of sexual abuse in the area of Church is financed exclusively with funds from the religious institution.

Pérez has highlighted that the survey by the department directed by Ángel Gabilondo reports thousands of victims of "pedophilia" within the Catholic Church, which must imply their disqualification from managing private and concerted educational centers through religious entities, transferring them to the public management by the administration.

"An institution that has hidden a pedophile plot cannot receive public money or manage schools," Pérez reiterated, describing as "very serious" the conclusions of the Ombudsman's report, which has left them "dismayed."

Just as the formation did yesterday, the Podemos leader has said that they support the victims' request that this type of crime not have a statute of limitations, so that they can be reported and prosecuted even though many years have passed.
