Otegi says that if the PSOE continues to govern the "plurinational State" it should be on the table

He affirms that the Spanish elites are preparing an operation to save the 1978 regime with a PP-Vox government

BILBAO, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has assured today that if the current government is repeated in the next legislature, the territorial question "should be on the table". He considers that Spain is a "plurinational" state and that a government that considers itself progressive "has to formulate the democratic solution to national problems in a different way" because, he assures, the Basque Country "continues to be an unrecognized nation."

During an interview given to ETB1, collected by Europa Press, Arnaldo Otegi stated that the State has "an unresolved territorial and national problem and that, in the event that a government like the current one were to repeat itself in the next Legislature, that question "should be on the table".

Thus, the pro-independence leader has stated that "if the Spanish State really wants to move towards true and deep democratization, a democratic solution to the national problem must be found, because if it is not done, it will always be there as a problem and it will prove that in the Spanish State they are not capable of understanding that, in democratic terms, it is a plurinational State".

"The State has an unresolved territorial and national problem: Euskal Herria is one, Catalonia is another and Galicia is another. We assume that a government that sees itself as progressive has to formulate the democratic solution to national problems in another way We believe that, if there were a second legislature, that should be on the table, without haste, without making a lot of noise, but the debate has to take place, because we continue to be an unrecognized nation", he assured.

Otegi has also affirmed that "the economic and other elites" of the State are preparing "an operation to save the regime of 78", and that, in said operation, a government between PP and Vox is "the most authoritarian formula".

Otegi has lamented that the Spanish left "on many occasions buys the frames of the extreme right", because, in this way, in his opinion, "you strengthen that phenomenon".

In addition, he has considered that the rise of the extreme right "is not something that happens only in the Spanish State, but is a phenomenon that is happening throughout Europe", for which he has urged the left to "strengthen its position and its own frames".

The independence leader has considered "very complicated or impossible" for the PP to achieve a sufficient majority in the general elections on July 23 to be able to govern alone, for which he has indicated that "he is preparing a government between PP and Vox", something which, in his opinion, "should lead us to reflect on what a government formula like this could bring to this country, which is not good at all."

"We have been saying for years that there is a crisis of the 78 regime, and the economic and other elites in the State are preparing an operation to save it, and for that the most authoritarian formula is PP and Vox. There are other different ways of dealing to the crisis of this regime, some softer, and this formula is the harshest and most authoritarian, because they believe that this regime can only be defended through authoritarianism, and that should be a source of concern for the Basques", he warned .

Likewise, Otegi has highlighted that "there has been a story" during the last legislature in which "a progressive bloc that has given opportunities to make progressive policies" has been formed in the State, in which EH Bildu has been.

In this sense, he has assured that "there is no progressive government in the State without the pro-independence left", and that, although "we have to see what happens" in the elections on July 23, "depending on the perspective, that will be the case ".

"It is very curious, but those of us who want to leave the State are the ones who expressly make a progressive government possible for four years. Without the participation of the pro-independence left and without our votes, there is no progressive bloc in the State, which then turns to the extreme right. That is an objective fact and a political responsibility for us", he stressed.
