One in three basic foods rises in price in March, more in fruits and vegetables, according to Facua

MADRID, 17 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Facua has detected, after a monthly review of the evolution of prices in more than 1,000 products, that in 312 cases, which represents 30.8%, the price has become more expensive compared to the one they had on December 30, a once the VAT reduction has been applied, as detailed this Friday by the association in a statement.

Of the total number of products in which Facua has detected a rise in its comparison, 127 correspond to fruits or vegetables, 55 are olive or sunflower oils and 47 are milk or dairy products.

In addition, 34 price increases have been detected among legumes (10.8%), 19 among pasta (6% of the increases) and 17 among rice (5.4%). The remaining dozen prices are primarily breads and eggs.

Facua has pointed out that the data show "once again" the need for the Government to set maximum prices on basic foods, "something for which it is empowered as established in article 13 of the 1996 trade law."

Taking into account that in the month of February they were "practically one in five", as Facua has stressed, the association has decided to expand the complaints it filed with the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) in the first two months of 2023, which reiterates that to date it has not received "any type of response".

Specifically, these complaints have been addressed to Mercadona, Alcampo, Aldi, Carrefour, Dia, Eroski, Lidl and Hipercor, where, according to Facua, "the greatest number of anomalies" have been registered, since in this El Corte Inglés chain 71 of the total 168 prices analyzed have increased, 42.2%.

They are followed by Lidl, Carrefour, Aldi, Eroski and Dia, while on the other side of the scale, the two chains that have registered a lower percentage of price increases are Mercadona and Alcampo.
