A total of 501 minors were convicted of sexual crimes in 2022, which represented an increase of 14.1% compared to 2021, according to data from the Conviction Statistics of the National Statistics Institute (INE) collected by Europa Press.

Of the 501 minors convicted, they committed a total of 636 crimes, 4.4% more than in 2021, of which 389 were considered sexual abuse and assault on minors under 16 years of age, 134 sexual abuse and 27 sexual assault, of which four were considered rape.

Also in 2022, 3,201 adults were convicted of sexual crimes, which represented an increase of 0.2% compared to the previous year. They committed 3,835 crimes, 3.2% less, of which 762 were considered sexual abuse or assault of minors under 16 years of age, 1,458 sexual abuse and 462 sexual assault, of which 46 were rapes.

According to the INE, both in the case of convicted adults and minors, all registered in the Central Registry of Sexual Offenders, 97% were men and 3% were women.

On the other hand, the number of minors sentenced by a final sentence in 2022 also rose by 3.2% compared to 2021, up to 14,026 - between 14 and 17 years old -. Of them, 80.1% were men (2% more) and 19.9% ​​women (8.2% more).

The majority of these minors had Spanish nationality, 79.3%, although the rate per 1,000 inhabitants aged 14 to 17 was slightly more than double in the case of those of foreign nationality (14.3) than in those of foreign nationality. Spanish nationality (6).

The total of these minors committed 25,822 criminal infractions, 2% less than in 2021, all of them crimes. By type, 31.4% were injuries, 17.5% robberies and 8.6% threats.

In relation to the place of conviction, Andalusia was the community with the most minors registered in the Central Registry of Criminal Responsibility Sentences, with 19% of the total. They were followed by Comunitat Valenciana (13.3%) and Comunidad de Madrid (12.2%), according to the report.

Furthermore, the autonomous cities of Melilla and Ceuta (with 39.0 and 32.5, respectively) and the Balearic Islands (12), recorded the highest rates of minors between 14 and 17 years old convicted per 1,000 inhabitants of the same age range. . For their part, Galicia (4.3), Catalonia (4.8) and the Basque Country (5.7) presented the lowest values.

Regarding criminal offenses committed by minors, for every 1,000 inhabitants aged 14 to 17, the autonomous cities of Melilla and Ceuta (with 96.2 and 87.0, respectively) and the Balearic Islands (26.8) recorded the higher rates. On the contrary, Galicia (7.7), Community of Madrid (9.3) and Region of Murcia (9.4) presented the lowest values.
