Messi: "This World Cup is also Maradona's"

MADRID, 20 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The captain of the Argentine team, Leo Messi, has confessed this Tuesday that the World Cup won in Qatar "is also Diego's" Armando Maradona, who "encouraged them from heaven", at the same time that he has revealed that "always" he had the "dream" of winning the World Cup "and he didn't want to stop trying."

"From Grandoli to the World Cup in Qatar, almost 30 years passed. There were nearly three decades in which ball gave me much joy and also some sadness. I always dreamed of being a World Champion and I didn't want to stop trying, even knowing that perhaps it would never happen", wrote the '10' on his Instagram profile after achieving the third star for Argentina in the tournament held in Qatar.

The striker, the best player of this World Cup and author of seven goals -two in the final-, insisted that the cup won "is also for all those who did not achieve it in the previous World Cups" that the 'Albiceleste' played. "Like in 2014 in Brazil, where everyone deserved it because of how they fought until the very final, worked hard and wanted it as much as I did. And we deserved it even in that damn final," he recalled about the 2014 tournament, when Argentina lost (1 -0) in the final against Germany.

"It's also from Diego (Maradona), who encouraged us from heaven. And from all those who always bankrolled the team without looking so much at the result, but rather the desire that we always put into it, also when things didn't work out for us as we wanted", he dedicated to the ex-player.

Messi also had words of thanks to the current squad, the coaching staff "and all the people of the team who, being anonymous, work day and night" to make everything "easier" for the players.

"Many times failure is part of the path and learning and without disappointment it is impossible for success to come. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart! Let's go Argentina!" concluded the striker in his emotional letter on social networks, after reaping his First World Cup with Argentina.
