Messi stays the MVP and Mbappé, a bitter Golden Boot

MADRID, 18 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The captain of Argentina, Leo Messi, was chosen 'Best player' of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 this Sunday, after the final in which he was crowned world champion for the first time, while the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé was 'Golden Boot' ' with eight goals.

After the penalties that decided the World Cup, in an epic Argentina-France final in Lusail, the distribution of the individual prizes was also monopolized by the 'albiceleste'. Messi, author of seven goals, and leader of his team in every game, was chosen MVP.

Meanwhile, the Argentine goal 'Dibu Martínez' and the South American midfielder Enzo Fernández were recognized as 'Best Goalkeeper' and 'Best Young Player' of Qatar 2022. France repeated world title four years later.

Mbappé also left three goals in a heart-stopping final, two in one minute in the final stretch to tie (2-2) the 2-0 with which Argentina was at ease until minute 80. In extra time, Messi made his second goal in the final, but Mbappé equalized again.

The PSG striker, at 23, was left with honey on his lips although he signed a final to remember, with the first hat-trick in the decisive game since 1966. In two World Cups, Mbappé has scored 12 goals and, due to youth and quality, he will have time to continue expanding his records, although he will have the thorn of Qatar.
