Laporta visits the refugee support projects of the FC Barcelona Foundation in Colombia

BARCELONA, Nov. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, together with the general director of the Fundació FC Barcelona, Marta Segú, visited the projects carried out by the entity in Arauca (Colombia), in which more than 500 children and adolescents participate Venezuelan refugees and internally displaced persons from Colombia.

Laporta wanted to see first-hand these projects of the club's foundation, whose purpose is to "create safe environments" that contribute to the development and social integration process of these communities through sport.

These projects, managed by the United Nations refugee agency ACNUR/UNHCR, a priority partner of the Fundació FC Barcelona, and by the international NGO Save the Children, with the support of Scotiabank, support both Venezuelan refugee families and families of internally displaced persons in Colombia.

The FC Barcelona Foundation's SportNet methodology will also be implemented in these projects, which allows, through sport, to improve the emotional and physical well-being of the participating boys and girls.

During the visit, the president of FC Barcelona and the Foundation was able to see how the SportNet activity was carried out with the children and educators of the two entities and the Foundation's trainers. Likewise, he has been able to talk with the families of the participants and the representatives of ACNUR / UNHCR and Save the Children, who manage the projects in the area.

"When we say that Barça is more than a club, it is also because of things like these that the FC Barcelona Foundation does, being here today with these people, these children and adolescents, refugees and displaced people who are going through very difficult times in their lives. We contribute our small part to help change this situation, with the projects we do with UNHCR and Save the Children, but also trying to make their situation visible," Laporta said.

"During my meeting in Geneva with the High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, I undertook, as president of the FC Barcelona Foundation, to support him in initiatives such as this one and in many others on which we are working together, also in Turkey, Malaysia and Uganda. But it is a problem that millions of people in many parts of the world are experiencing," he added.
