LaLiga abides by the decision on the Super League and trusts that the CJEU will support "the current European model of sport"

MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

LaLiga has accepted the decision of the Provincial Court of Madrid to reactivate the precautionary measures that prevent FIFA and UEFA from establishing sanctions against the Super League, but has recalled that there are still several court decisions that it hopes will support "the current European model of sport", as well as insisting that the creation of the Super League would mean "the end of the European national leagues".

"LaLiga, as an interested party in this procedure, accepts this precautionary pronouncement but awaits the resolution of the main procedure in the Commercial Court of Madrid once the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is known. "he says in his statement.

In addition, it ensures that in the previous judicial precedents and the general lawyer of the European Union Athanasios Rantos have indicated as "unequivocally legitimate and necessary principles such as integrity, sporting merit and the opening of competitions". "LaLiga trusts that the CJEU supports the current European model of sport, which has the backing of the European institutions and national governments," he adds.

"LaLiga is a firm defender of the current European football model, which has demonstrated its success allowing an adequate development of our sport, football, from the grassroots to the professional categories, with an adequate coexistence between the national leagues and the European competitions" , go on.

In this sense, he considers that the creation of a Super League outside this governance model would mean "the end of the European national leagues", it would end "with a model that has proven its effectiveness for more than 100 years" and "it would break the dream of the millions of fans of national competitions".

"The creation of a league designed to enrich the biggest clubs and concentrate power in a small number of teams that already dominate European football, would also cause the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and drastically reduce the tax revenue of the public coffers of the entire continent", he concludes.

This Tuesday, the Provincial Civil Court of Madrid reactivated the precautionary measures that prevent both FIFA and UEFA from establishing sanctions against the Super League, after revoking the order of April 20, 2022 of the Commercial Court No. 17 of Madrid decreeing the lifting of these measures.

The Court has upheld the appeal filed by the Super League against the order issued last April, when the Commercial Court number 17 of Madrid ruled the end of the precautionary measures requested by the Super League after upholding the appeal filed by UEFA , who had a free hand to penalize Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus, the three survivors of the project, if he wished.

According to the order known this Tuesday, the Super League project "would not be incompatible with the fact that the interested clubs could continue to take part in national competitions", and it highlights that the decision to abandon a competition "should be free and not imposed according to criteria of a manager who could incur in arbitrariness from the position of conflict of interest that arises for the monopolist who shows signs that he aspires to maintain his privileged status".
