Kremlin rules out Putin's attendance at Prigozhin's funeral

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the funeral in memory of Wagner Group founder Yevgeni Prigozhin, who died last week after the plane he was traveling on crashed due to unknown causes while flying from Moscow to Saint Petersburg.

"The presence of the president is not foreseen," his main spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has settled on Tuesday, who has not given details about the celebration of the funeral pending the decisions that his environment may adopt, reports the Interfax news agency.

In several cities in Moscow, spontaneous tributes have been registered in recent days to the figure of Prigozhin, who for years has commanded a network of mercenaries involved in various conflict scenarios, including the one in Ukraine.

The sudden death of the oligarch has generated a wave of speculation in recent days, although the Kremlin has assured that it had nothing to do with the incident. Putin has publicly expressed his condolences, however recalling the "mistakes" committed by his former ally, in a veiled allusion to the rebellion launched in June by Wagner's leader.
