Katie Ledecky breaks Mireia Belmonte's 800 free world record

MADRID, 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The American swimmer Katie Ledecky has beaten this morning at the World Cup in Indianapolis (United States) the world record for the 800-meter freestyle, after lowering the previous record of the Spanish Mireia Belmonte by two seconds.

The seven-time Olympic champion, who last week smashed the 1,500-meter freestyle world record in Toronto (Canada) by ten seconds - which was her first world record in the short course - swam in 7:57.42 to lower the mark of the Catalan swimmer, who set a 7:59.34 at the World Cup in Berlin in 2013.

"I pushed myself a lot after last week," Ledecky confessed. "I put a little pressure on myself after I swam in Toronto, I wish I had done it there. It's always nice to hear from the fans, it's a fun way to start the fall and the season," he added.
