The Israeli Armed Forces confirmed this Sunday the start of the military ground offensive on the south of the Gaza Strip. Until now, Israeli forces had penetrated the north of the enclave, although aircraft have been bombing targets throughout the territory since October 7.
"We have intervened with force and thoroughness in the north of the Gaza Strip and now we are doing the same in the south of the Gaza Strip while we continue to build on our successes in the north," said the Chief of the General Staff of the Forces. Israeli Navy, Herzl Halevi, according to a military statement.
"Yesterday, today, we killed battalion commanders, members (of Hamas) and yesterday morning we began to do the same in the southern Gaza Strip. Hagari also reported the death this Sunday of the commander of the Shati Battalion of the Ezzedin al Qassam militias, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in an air attack.
The deceased, whose name has not been revealed, "led the fight in the Shati area" and was one of the commanders of the incursion of the Palestinian militias into Israeli territory on October 7.

Regarding the start of the offensive in the south of the Gaza Strip, in the last few hours videos have been published on social networks of Israeli tanks moving south along the Saladin highway, which links the Gaza Strip from north to south, specifically between the cities of Khan Yunis and Deir al Balá.
This Sunday both Israel and Hamas have confirmed fighting in Khan Yunis, the second most important city in the Gaza Strip. Israel has ordered the evacuation of parts of the Khan Younis region.
