Israel announces the recovery of the body of a soldier captured by Hamas in the October 7 attacks

MADRID, 17 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Israeli Army announced this Friday the recovery of the body of soldier Noa Marciano, kidnapped during the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and whose death was confirmed this week after the Islamist group published a video in which he appeared after his capture and in which he claimed that he died as a result of an Israeli bombing against the Gaza Strip.

Thus, he indicated that the body of Marciano, who had the rank of corporal, was recovered on Thursday "in a building located near the Al Shifa Hospital", while stating that he was later transferred to Israel for identification and to notify his family.

"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) share the family's sorrow and will continue to accompany them," he said, while reiterating that "the national mission is to locate the missing and achieve the return home of the kidnapped."

"The IDF works closely and in full coordination with the relevant national and security agencies to accomplish these tasks and will not stop until they are completed," he stressed, according to a statement published on his website.

Marciano, 19 years old and a member of the 414th Battalion of the Combat Intelligence Collection Corps, was kidnapped by Hamas during its October 7 attacks against Israeli territory, which left nearly 1,200 dead and around of 240 kidnapped.

Hamas published a video on Monday in which Marciano appeared speaking to camera several days after his capture, after which it showed his body. Immediately afterwards, the Israeli Army spoke of "psychological terrorism", after which it confirmed on Tuesday that the young woman had died.

The announcement of the location of Marciano's body comes a day after the Army confirmed the discovery of the body of Yehudit Weiss, a 65-year-old woman also kidnapped by Hamas during the aforementioned attacks, in a building located near the Al Hospital. Shifa.

Israel launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip after Hamas attacks that have so far left at least 11,500 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza authorities, controlled by the Islamist group. Likewise, more than 180 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in Army operations and settler attacks.
