He questions whether the internal “pressure” of ‘Genoa’ would lead him to repeal the law
MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Finance and Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, has assured this Thursday that Alberto Núñez Feijóo has demonstrated an “absolute incapacity” to be president of the Government with his position on abortion and the internal discrepancies that he has caused in the Party Popular, where “is rebuked.”
He has said it in statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, when asked about the words of Feijóo, who on Wednesday assured that abortion is not a fundamental right, but did defend that women have it to be able to voluntarily interrupt the pregnancy in accordance with the terms of current legislation, which has just been endorsed by the Constitutional Court and which the PP appealed in 2010.
“If Feijóo does not have leadership within his party, how can he aspire to be president of the Government. It has become clear that he does not command anything”, considered the Minister of Finance, who has also influenced the leader of the PP a few years ago months they discussed internally that he wanted to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) with the PSOE and in the end he broke the “consensus”.
Regarding abortion, Montero has pointed out that Feijóo gives his opinion in public and “within his party he is reprimanded”, which shows -in his opinion- an “absolute incapacity for leadership”.
Therefore, it has been asked “what the leader of the main opposition party would do” if he governs in the future. From the Government they do not know, the minister has said, if the “pressure” from within her party would lead her to “repeal” the law if she arrived in Moncloa.
Montero has defended that abortion is a “right” and belongs to women to “be able to decide on maternity and on their bodies.” “There is no room for half measures, either you are for the right to abortion or you are not,” she has claimed.
In his opinion, the statements of Feijóo or of the party spokesmen in recent days make it clear that the PP does not know what opinion it has regarding abortion, the law of deadlines and the current regulation.
