Ingenuity dares with rocky terrain on Mars to land

MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

This image of NASA's Ingenuity helicopter on Mars shows how this aircraft, the first powered, controlled flight on another world, braves rough terrain to land.

The image of the so-called 'Airfield Mu' was taken by the Mastcam-Z instrument aboard Perseverance on April 14, 2023, the 764th Martian day, or sol, of the rover's mission.

"The helicopter's landing risk avoidance algorithm helped guide it to a safe landing on Mu on the previous sun, after completing its 50th flight," the mission blog explains.

The helicopter is just below and to the left of the center of the image. It is about 220 meters away from the rover. The approximately 1.2 meter wide split rock, which appears to be directly in front and to the right of the helicopter, is actually approximately 115 meters in front of the helicopter.
